I'm interested in the medical clerical field...any advice?
Asked by Megan Brittany
Hi, I'm 21 years old and I'm almost finished with my Associate's degree in Accounting. The thing is I'm not sure if I really want to work in an accounting field, I know I would like to work in the clerical field and I'm thinking of the medical field, like at the doctors office as the receptionist, or at the hospital in the X-Ray or Lab department. I was just wondering what sort of experience was needed and possibly if college was required. Does anyone work in this field? How do you like it? Thanks so much for your time!

Honestly to be in the clerical field there is no college required. All the extra computer classes in Accounting to get your degree will be more than enough. However I must tell you. this is not the easiest place to find a job. Not many places are hiring. If you are in a larger city you may have no problems! I worked as a medical assistant for over a year and loved it, i had to quit for personal reasons not related to mt job, and now i am finishing my last class for my associates in accounting. I really want to go into medical billing but thats a difficult place to find a job also. I loved my job at the drs office. The other girl that worked the front office had no college, and no experience as a receptionist, she had been there for over a year when i started and she left to go another drs office when i left.

There are classes at medical assistant schools and vocational schools that you can attend and get a certification or degree in. Just do a search engine search for your area to find one. You will for sure need to take a class in medical terminology, and need to know how insurance is billed, and medical coding systems. Good luck.
