I have a learning disability should I tell my new boss?
Asked by sheryl B
I am bad at retaining information and I have two job propositions to be a diesel mechanic or an assistant but I have to learn computers microsofts. I am not good at math but I love working on trucks. My wife thinks I should be an assistant so I don't get hurt on the job. What should I do?
Plus I would have to attend training to become a diesel mechanic and I have a learning disability so I might have it tougher than most ppl, but I am familiar with diesel trucks
Plus I usually get misunderstood by teachers and students who don't have the patience to teach me.

I think for your case, you should try out for both jobs.
You need to be honest about your condition to both potential employers. This is also to be fair to them and to yourself. In the event, they accept your condition and gives you the job, at least you have the peace of mind to know that you don't have to be secretive and hide who you really are, but just try to do your best in the job.
I'm sure there will be an employer who appreciates your honesty and gives you that chance that you deserve. Good luck!

Tell your boss. Then if he hires you and your disability get you in trouble, he wont be like "Why didn't you tell me?! You're fired!"

If you have been asked to take the training you must be really good at what you do! If you would like a crack at the job,you might tell the boss that you would like to try, but if the training is expensive and he thinks you can't do it, you could lose your opportunity. I guess what it all boils down to is how well your boss knows you, how much confidence he has in you and how hard you are willing to work to overcome your disability. Good luck !

i would tell him about your disability but also tell him about your asperations of wanting to learn the trade and you will give 110%..even if you have to take books home and have your wife help you..if you have some truck and diesel experience you should already have a foot in the door
