What other job can I do?
Asked by believe in miracles
I am a full time LNA on first shift and I have a 2nd job part time for in home health care. I don't know how much longer I can do the 2nd job as it is so tiring because I do nothing but sit and toilet and stare at a miserable old lady who wants nothing to do with me or anything I have to offer her. My boss has no-one else in my area to watch with the hours I can do and there is no other place in this area to go. I need to make at least what I am making now (which isn't great anyways) but want to do something else. I would work more hours at my first job but that's not an option unless someone calls out sick last minute. Any ideas?

Why not sleep during your second job. She doesn't want you there anyway, so why not go into the other room and sleep. Have a bell for her to ring to wake you up and tell her you won't bother her not unless you have to. I think all old people don't want anyone else around even when they need help, so don't take the old lady's miserableness to heart, just do your job and stay out of her way until you have to be there with her. Nurses like you are hard to find and I'm sure the lady's children won't mind you sleeping, as long as they know someone is there when needed. I know a bunch of people who would feel that way, me being one of them, with my grandmother who kept kicking anyone we got out of her house, but she really needed someone there to help cook and do errands and such. I'm not sure what other job you might like that's out there, that would pay anything better, but I wish you luck. EMT? I dunno. Take care; we'll all get old someday.

Is there another worker at home health that could possible switch with you. maybe someone that is having an equally troubling time with their client. SOMETIMES, this type of client will do horribly with one health care worker and be great with the next. Kind of a good cop, bad cop ordeal.
I was down another wing today that I am not used to at all. I had a particular resident that usually beats the heck out of her other girls. I was a fresh face, I introduced myself and started fresh like I was just meeting her for the first time and we had a good time while dressing. I left her room with her smiling from ear to ear. In her eyes I was the good cop for the moment.
P.S. Sorry if I got a lot of mispellings here, but they must have killed the spell checker. Darn their cold hearts :)
