What Is a good carpentry job?
Asked by mike
I'm 16 years old and I'm starting to look into a future career I go to school for construction (carpentry, plumbing, hvac, welding, electrical) and I really enjoy the carpentry part. So I'm asking where do you suggest a good high paying carpentry job. Ex: union, school board, etc. Also could someone explain what exactly is the carpenters union. Thanks

The carpenters union could be good depending on where you live.I spent 30 years as a carpenter and its good at first and you can make good $.But after a while it takes it tole on your body.If you like building stay in school and go for being a superintendent.Or get a contractors lic or maby drafting school. If you need to be on the site building though try finish work. also I would like to tell you there could be allot of time you will be out of work.
I have helped build half the housing devolpments in san diego

Well, I went to school years ago for residential building....loved the carpentry end of it...I went to Alfred State...I would have to say, better yet, if I could do it all over again, that one should definatley look into "Green" building....There will be a large demand for anything that betters the earth and the way we utilize it in the future...creating things that we use in our everyday lives, like houses, (thats where there is big money) and renewing the earth as you go along is where its at!...Try looking into being a green architect...Big $$$$...Best of Luck!
