Best Answer:
Once America realizes that the war on drugs is WORSE than the drugs themselves. Making drugs illegal only increases the blackmarket prices, making it more profitable to thugs. Plus we are wasting all that money keeping non-violent marijuana offenders in jail.

This subject is to vast to even begin to tackle. The short answer. No time soon, Bud is illegal for a different reason than most think. Most people believe it is illegal because of the "harm" it can do to the population. Untrue, its illegal because it would put major corporations our of business. One of them being the oil company. So don't get your hopes up.

When you're the president. Or maybe before. Or after. Look, it won't get legalized for a while. While it isn't bad for your lungs, it will give you mouth cancer faster than snuff. But that's not why. The government won't legalize it because dealers will make more money than the companies.

I don't know what "marijuawna" is. I assume you meant to say "marijuana", right? OK, I can't answer this question because you don't specify which country you are talking about. This makes a big difference! Marijuana use is already legal in some countries (ie, the Netherlands) and is legal in others only under certain circumstances (ie, for medical treatment). Unless you name a specific country, I can't give you an intelligent answer. If you are referring to the USA, IMHO if marijuana is legalized someday, it would have to be done in stages. First it would need to become legal to help treat pain/distress in a medical environment (as I mentioned earlier) and prove itself effective & non-habit forming in that setting to even have a chance of going any further. Even after that, it would be a fight. My "crystal ball", unscientific guess would be at least 10 years, and perhaps a lot longer. In short, not anytime soon!

Back in the 1970's, I thought it would be legal by 1990. Of course that never happened. In fact, since the 1970's, the government has taken over our lives more and more. The reason it is not legal now, is because we are not a logical society. The people that smoke marijuana provide jobs for the people that persecute them. Think of the irony of this fact! Cops, DEA agents, prosecutors, judges, jailers and defense lawyers; all benefit from their pot smoking clients. They treat the pot smokers like criminals, idiots who deserve no respect but are fined, locked away and treated as children instead of as the clients that fund their powerful lifestyles. So, the persecutors are respected and paid hefty salaries by the taxpayers. As long as there are people who benefit from the drug enforcement industry, and as long as we give them the false sense of "respect" and the salaries and wages that they get; as long as the taxpayers fund the salaries and perks of the drug enforcement profiteers; we will not have a sensible drug policy in this country. By the way, out of all the people that profit from drug enforcement persecution; the defense lawyers are the only ones who for the most part would act against their own self-interest, and argue for the elimination of persecution of the pot-smoking victims. So, if you ever hear a prosecutor, jailer, narc or any of their ilk argue against the legalization of marijuana - take it with a grain of salt- they are only arguing to preserve their own best interest by preserving the status-quo!
