What do most executive chef and line cooks make a year ?

Thinking about going in that career since I love being in the kitchen and practically live in the kitchen. I'm going to pursue this career anyways. But what do chefs make from line cook to executive chef ? Just curious. I heard people go to culinary school and only qualify or start with jobs that are only $10 a hour. That unacceptable.

People who go to culinary school without real kitchen experience can expect to make $8/hour once they get out. They will get the same job you are qualified for right now and put themselves in mega debt in the process. The best school for food service is work! Get any kitchen job and learn the trade. Yes, executive chef's make good money but only after years of hard work and study. Good luck

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'chefs and cooks' or such. Please forgo those private $$ schools and instead opt for the county vo-tech school or community college as long it's accredited within the industry.

Executive Chefs are salaried. Line Cooks are paid by the hour. How much they earn varies. If your goal is to be an Executive Chef, you start as a line cook and move your way up. You gotta pay your dues. It took my Executive Chef 12 years to earn his title after he left culinary school.
