I want to be a mechanic when I leave the military. What do I need to do to get a job as one?

I am studying for the ASE certification A1 to A8 in November and when I leave the army I will have been in for 3.5 years as an army mechanic (which doesn't necessarily mean you know a whole lot).

You're dead wrong about your military service. To a prospective employer it means you know how to show up for work, show up on time, that you're trainable and he will not be wasting money on you if he sends you to a factory school. Be sure and go to TAP class, you'll get a lot of good tips there on resume writing and job searching.

You would be surprised how many companies are looking for trained ex-military personnel. Use the military to get as much free training as you can before you get out. The more training you get the less these companies will have to shell out training you so they can start paying you... Train and study and work. Good luck. By the way, last time I heard a BMW mechanic makes around $80k.
