When to tell my boss...????
Asked by *~*love always*~*
I have been working as an assistant since April & honestly I just don't like it. I don't have enough work for a full day I always end up scanning documents for part of the day. To me it just feels very mind numbing.
I came from a job (6 years) telecom maintenance support it was challenging, kept me busy, I always got to learn new things & I had a "hands on" part of new rules/polices etc. The only reason why I took the job is cause I needed more money. I found something similar on w/ building maintenance where I work (well a sister company) & I really want to apply for it. With the 6 years of experience I'm thinking I will get even better pay plus I will be a lot happier.
Should I talk to my boss first before applying for the position? How should I bring this up to him? He is not aware that I don't like the job. I like him as a person/boss he has always said he wouldn't keep someone from moving on if they want. I have never been in a job for this short amount of time before moving on so I feel kinda uncomfortable with it. I feel like I'm letting him down.
What do you think....when should I talk to him about this new position?

i'd go ahead and tell him. and tell him it isn't personal at all. just that you and the job aren't a good fit. i'd rather tell someone right away and get it off my mind and move on.

Tell him about it AFTER you are accepted into the new position. He doesn't need to know about every job you apply for. Only the one you get.

Do not tell him now. Tell him once you've been hired for the new position.

If he can't give you additional work to keep you busy, You gotta look out for you, only tell him when you are accepted at the new company. Hopefully it is what you are looking for at the new company, jobs are really hard to find right now, so be really sure it is what you want before leaving. Good Luck!
