Some classes to focus would simply be English, Math, Science, and a foreign language. Get good grades. Stay out of trouble and strive to have a good reputation. Maintain a good driving record. Begin to establish some credit history. It doesn't have to be much, but just enough to indicate some financial responsibility. Establish a good work history. If you have a job, be a good employee. Be competent, reliable, responsible, courteous, well groomed, etc. If you don't have a job, it could be a good idea to get one even if it is only one day per week. Be physically fit. Visit the websites of the police agencies that you are interested in. You will find information about the requirements and qualifications necessary to apply and get hired. After high school, attend college. College is very important. Some police departments require that their officers only have a high school diploma or GED, some require 30 credits or a two year degree, and some require 60 credits or a four year degree. Having a degree will open many doors for you. Some departments pay their officers more if they have a degree. Having a degree can also help you get promoted after you are hired.
