Is dishwashing in a resturant a good job for a teen female to do?

At the restaurant where my sister works, she has done dish washing--although her regular job is hostess. The busboys haul in large pans of dishes with all the leftover food gunk still on. As dishwasher, my sister had to use a rather powerful spray hose to rinse off the plates, etc. with really hot water (she had to wear big rubber gloves) and then transfer everything to the dishwasher. The floor does get messy. It's a methodical sort of job that goes on and on, and doesn't seem to ever get finished. But she didn't find it to be overly hard, I mean, it's less annoying than hand-washing dishes for a family of six. She didn't find it in the least demeaning, and because of her willingness to do any job, she has been offered assistant manager.

Good way to get started. Prove to the boss that you can do the job. Not particularly easy, working about hot water and steam, standing on your feet all the time. Show them that you can do the job, but keep your eyes open for promotion to other assignments.

You got it all wrong. It's not going to be easy. The positive things that I can think of are you pay checks and the determinatioin to find a better job.

NO. Being a server is MUCH better. More money from a better wage plus the tips. Leave the dishwashing to the illegals. You can do better!

If you can deal with bullies for minimum wage while standing knee deep in the coldest grossest water ever - sure. If not then apply to bus (clear tables) or hostess (greet and seat people) or apply to a fast food place. Dish washing is brutal and not suited to anyone who can't take abuse. Good Luck!
