You're only being silly if you know that nursing is your passion & you AREN'T doing it. Go after your dream, life is too short to wake up in the morning and think, "I have to go to work today." Life should be about waking up and saying, "I GET to go to work today." You're lucky to have the resources available to go to nursing school, so you should embrace that. So many people would kill to be in a position that allows them to go after what they want. Good luck & I'll be praying!

You can have a career change at any age, its all up to you. Go for what you want, don't worry about anyone else.

Age is just a number! If you want a career change what does it matter whether your 20, 30, 40, 50 or higher?! Go for it! You'll only regret it later on!

You are definitely not being silly. You will probably be working for the next 25 years, so you need to find a job that you are satisfied with and pays enough. When you make a career change, you have to be realistic about what you want to do, but you are probably making the right decision.

A:
No! I have had two career changes since 40. I am still not sure that I might not change again and I am in my middle 50s. You still have at least 25 years until you retire, try something new.

Nothing effects us more than change if you're in a rut a change is due and nothing to fear whatsoever. Best of luck.

Maybe. "Age is just a number" is non-sense. Many companies don't want to hire anyone over 40. Do you have any special skills a company might need? If you have a good job now, I'd keep it. You're not being silly, but you need to be realistic...

Not at all, Life begins at 40 !

Of course not! Think Grandmother Moses. She became an artist at the age of 77!! (First source is a link to info about her.) Nobody ever said anyone had to stick with one career; my mother is older than you used to to work as a typist, but recently did work as a restorative justice councilor. Big difference between the two, trust me. :) Whatever you want to become, it's pretty likely that you can achieve it. I wish you luck!

Not silly at all. I'm 53 and considering a career change. GO for it, you'll be happy you did at 40!!!
Answered by Anne

A:
No - at 40 you've still got 25 years of working life left! I don't know your situation but most 40-year-olds have not yet been in the workforce for 25 years, so you're not even half-way through your working life! Obviously, there is a certain amount of consideration that must go into it. How long will it take you to retrain? It might be worth doing if it will take you three years; ten years perhaps may not be worthwhile. Do you have a family, and if so will you be able to support them while you retrain? But I'd say ... if you want to do it and it is feasible, then go ahead!
