Do police officers have a dress code aside from the uniform?

I have been considering becoming a police officer. The only problem is that I have the apperance of what many cops see as threatening. Please keep in mind that I am EXTREMELY polite, I just like to piss of judgemental people. To me, being an officer would show that you can believe in freedom of speech and still respect the law. could i ever get hired with this attitude?

lol you don't become an officer to show that you can believe in freedom of speech and still respect the law, you become an officer to be able to harass people and pretty much ignore laws yourself and take bribes. If you don't LOOK like a cop you aren't going to get the job anyway.

We dont have a dress code off duty...But I would highly suggest dressing and acting appropriately for the interview...."The clothes make the man"...its sad but a true statement. Good luck if you are serious.....

patrol officers and special officers have a uniform other than a dress uniform, detectives dont..usually suit and a tie unless undercover

i think it includes hair being tide back (not sure if they restrict on colour, probs do) no facial piercings small lobe studs no tats on face or lower arms

Unless you are undercover and have to fit in with a certain element, there is an appearance code at many police departments. For example, most discourage visible tattoos, things like earrings, long hair, sideburns and mustaches beyond a certain point. Cadets usually must buzz cut their hair. Obviously, the uniform must be well taken care of (pressed and dry cleaned, shoes shined). Not sure else qualifies in your opinion as "threatening" appearance.

use it ur advantage if u look like an outlaw ( and can act it out ) u will make great undercover one day. Clean shaven ( liitle if any bling ) suit tie probably best for intial screening exact codes vary dept to dept if ur commited sounds like will have to adlust til ur first uc assingment then can go back
