How much do truck drivers make?
Asked by justme
If there are 2 and they are on the road 24/7 how much do they each make in TN?

Best Answer:
drivers can figure on making $25-35,000 a year at first for their first year a piece...after that the money will go up averaging out around $50,000 a piece depending on the company. The best way for two drivers to work together is for them to be a husband wife team or relationship team where the money both makes goes into the same pot. This may sound like a lot of money to make, but remember, road expenses are high. 1 meal in a truckstop will run approximately $10.00. One can figure on a minimum of $100.00 a week for personal expenses. Good Luck!

I own 2 semi's. They are for doing Oversize load or Specialized Loads. One truck alone last year grossed 218,000. After taxes, fuel and all things we are allowed for deductions the truck cleared over 100,000. My son is the driver in the second truck. We purchased the one my husband is driving in May this year and son drives the older one. That truck is making approximately 20,000 a month right now. Son gets 25% of the gross line haul after the company takes their part. The 20,000 is what we clear before fuel and all that stuff. You also need at least 3 years of driving to get on with a company for these types of loads and work your way up to the big, big loads. About 2 more years doing smaller ones. Team drivers make a bit more doing regular loads (reefer or non reefer) loads. Most places pay by the mile to Owner/Operators. So if they pay you as the O/O 1.45 per mile or say the team (this is not a true figure just one I am using) then out of that you pay all of your repairs, fuel and so on you would make maybe .35 per mile. If the team did not own a semi then the company pays a per mile rate to the team of around .48 cpm. The per mile rate can be more or less per mile depending on the number of years of experience. I know that some companies start their new drivers out (no experience) at about .27 cpm. It goes up each year or every 6 months. It depends on the company you work for. Being on the road 24/7 does not mean you are always loaded. You may have 2 or 3 days of waiting to find a load. Starting drivers should earn at least 30,000 a yr but after that it should go up and they can make 50 - 60,000 when doing regular freight loads.
