How do I turn down a job offer I've accepted?
Asked by Violet
I accepted a job offer as an assistant for a toddler room at a daycare. In the meantime i was offered another job as a preschool classroom assistant. My goal is to be a preschool teacher. What is the best way to get out of the first job without burning too many bridges.

Be honest with them and if you are nervous about their reaction, just remember, you are doing what is right for you. I took a job and then was offered my dream job. The first company didn't take it too well, but guess what, I never saw or spoke to him again. It's a large planet with many opportunities.

Tell the daycare manager that you were subsequently offered a job in your chosen profession. Say that you didn't know about this offer at the time you accepted her offer. Tell her that you were impressed with her facility and that if the other job does not work out, you would like to work in her facility. Ask her blessing that you pursue your chosen profession. In other words, get him/her to buy into your higher good. Good Luck

If you haven't started the toddler job you can either say said you cannot accept the job because you have been offered another job or just say that you were offered a job that is closer to your dream career. Don't forget to say: thanks for your time to consider me for the post. You can also choose to write an e-mail to them.

Call them and let them know a better position came up and you have decided to take it instead. I am sure they can find someone else equally qualified for their position.
