In my experience Salesmen (and service engineer managers) only seem to be concerned about inventory when it isn't there to meet their needs and they would always want to have more inventory (which isn't their responsibility) than really necessary just in case it's needed. A good inventory manager should know, or find out if he (or she) isn't sure, what inventory he needs to support manufacturing, sales & service in his region. I'm sure that any useful advice that a salesman could offer would be appreciated but as an example when our sales team said they could sell 400 of a product, stock control provisioned for 200, Sales only managed to sell 100!
