M.L.C
Do you think bilingual people should be paid more in the workplace?
Asked by M.L.C
I don't just mean any bilingual. What I mean is for a bilingual who lives in place where their second language is commonly used. For example spanish/english people living in towns bordering Mexico or French speaking people in Louisiana. Having a second language helps companies so should they pay more for the extra skill.

Many government agencies do pay extra if you speak more then one language even if you don’t use it on daily basis. I do not know any privet business who do that. BUT I do think that bilingual employee should be paid some incentive to the base salary if he/she uses her ability at work.

A:
It depends on how that company weighs skills. Like you said it is a skill just like any other skill a company requires. Some companies count it has a major value, others don't.

NOPE....if one can't speak our langange then they should not hold a job....we ones comes to this country...then our langage should apply...its what they expect when we enter their country to live

A:
Not necessarily. If the company says theyre looking for bilinguals, maybe, but if you work and happen to be bilingual, and it helps you out, then they shouldn't have to pay you more. and just because you go to a country does NOT mean they should learn YOUR language. Its the other way around. You wanna get by, you learn the native language. It only makes sense.

A:
Yes. Bottom line when running a business, you must do your best to speak the language of the money that comes through the doors. Bilingual employees, regardless of the language, are and will always be an asset to any business that is serious about making money, therefore, yes bilingual employees should earn more money.

If the language is useful for your job, you probably already got the benefit for being bilingual by getting preference in being hired. Some companies do pay a premium for being bilingual where it's helpful in the job, some don't. It isn't a legal issue, they aren't required to.

i think that billingual people should get paid more in the workplace. i mean if any company is really interested in bringing in minority customers they are required to speak different languages. just imagine how many customers companies would lose if they had no bilingual people around to assist them. ...and as for "Kris d" dude, if u were to go to russia, trying to get around and no one speak english you would get lost in the tracks...so think about it, just as you would benefit from someone in russia speaking english so do the many citizens of the usa who speak other languages other than english. besides our country is composed of immigrants, why should we put on language barriers...non sense....bilingual people should get paid more....bottom line.
