How do you manage a manager?
Asked by steve h
I might have to do this soon and its hard enough to manage my team of electronic engineering staff already. They are all boffins and geeks most of them! Is there a more hands-off approach I must take with this new manager in the team?

Not knowing what he/she is going to be doing or their skill level the only thing I can focus on is you. Just remember that in order to manage the manager well you need to make him or her look good (you are doing x for their benefit). Once he/she sees that you have their best interest at heart it will be easier to do this.
Good luck.

Will the manager be in charge of the group? If so just tell them what needs to be done, give a timeline, and follow up.

you don't say what the manager is going to do. I'd simply give him/her a while to settle in.If seriously lacking, have words and readvertise if very bad.But know.A manager should only need guidance not managing.
