Amy A
Should I go back to school or keep trying to find a job?
Asked by Amy A
I obtained a degree in fine arts (I know it was not a wise choice but I can't really take it back now) this past spring. Since then I have been trying to find a job doing anything that involves some type of creativity or even a clerical or administration job, but I can't find anything. I turn in resumes with cover letters and I don't even get a response. It has been five months since I graduated. I can not move away from this area (pittsburgh) because I have inherited a house here. My loan repayments (17k) are going to start coming in at the end of October and all I have is a crappy sales job that pays 8$ an hour which I can not live off of especially with these repayments. Should I keep trying to look for a job that I may never get or should I start looking at vocational schools? I already went through four years of school and don't want to go that much longer. I could also work more than 40 hrs a week but my job really sucks and is very depressing. I know my decision is ultimately up to me but I just wanted to get some opinions on what I should do. I did not foresee the economy slowing down. I am almost living at poverty level, so I know I could get a lot of financial aid for school but I would still go into more debt in loans.

look for a slightly higher paying job, maybe nights and week-ends. then take classes part-time for something else. then do some volunteer work in the area of fine arts like at a children's theatre or something . you may open a door that will get you full time employment.
