What are the pros and cons of being a plumber? ?
Asked by CL
I'm thinking of going to a trade school and take a plumbing pre-apprenticeship course.
But I'm just wondering what are the pros and cons of a being a plumber?
From what I know, there are times that you have to be under the ground in the sewers for 12 hours or more fixing the pipes as the crap flies in your face (literally). However on the good side, I heard this job has a potential for you to make 6 figures.
Any other pros and cons you might like to add? Thanks.

My dad went to plumbing school, but if I remember right, he never actually did any plumbing afterward, because the starting pay was so low. We couldn't survive on that much. I think to make any money off of it, you have to actually own your own plumbing business.

Pros: Potential for a very good income, always in demand, seldom doing the same old thing over and over again
Cons: Dirty work, some of the work is very hard, manual labor, odd hours, wearing your jeans half-way down your butt.
There are probably more on both sides, but those come to mind.
