How should I become a Medical Technologist?
Asked by Piccione
I have a BS in Microbiology from Univ. of Washington, but I find out all I really wanted to do is to identify microbes in a hospital. I did poorly because I was distracted to study Philosophy. Now, I'm in Madison WI. what should I do? Any advise? Should I spend two years in a technical college to get a clinical lab tech associate degree? or do you know any Univ. I can go for a year or two for a Med Tech. Bachelor degree?

Since you have a BS in micro; all you need to do is apply to a med tech 1 year training program; then you take the ASCP exam, and get a state license. (you might have to take a few pre-regs but I kinda doubt it). To find a training program in your area look at the american society of clinical pathologists web page (the ascp) or google around. Med technologists are also referred to as clinical lab scientists--so look under that as well.
