Career Questions and Answers

irmanator
should i switch jobs?
Asked by irmanator
the job i am at is boring with no chance of promotion, i have been here 5 years so i am not to worried about layoffs. i am a shipping clerk. I am applying for a job that seems secure and expanding. but would be in a factory and has a better work schedule. both are same pay. in new job not sure if i would have opportunity for advancement but i know i am trapped at my position where i am. I have had conversations with my supervisor regarding me wanting to do something different. He knows I am currently considering applying for a differnt position within our company. I probably wont go for that one because it would still be dead end just in a different area. Plus they will still expect me to help out in my current dept when short handed--they are always shorthanded because everone gets the same day off thats rediculus. also my current boss does not know what he is doing- i mean he is ok as a supervisor but he doesnt know the regulations and i am tired of arguing with him about what i can legally do.

Have you told your current bosses you are bored and would like more responsibility? If so, check out the other job as long as you leave your current job on good terms. Always nice to have something to go back to. Also, at the new job (assuming they have offered you the position), have you asked about your chances of advancement during the interview process? That is important to you, so be sure to ask while you are looking for something new. Good luck.

Find out more about the new job and if it sounds good move on, don't be trapped.
