How can I hire an intern for my nonprofit organization?
Asked by stevemdfwtx
Need someone to do clerical and web site administration type work. I have heard that it is possible for practically anyone to hire an intern and that there are web sites that help you do this. I'd like the internship to be for credit if possible. How do I do this?

Arrange a meeting with a professor at your nearest college...talk to someone in the field your non-profit is associated with. (e.g. if you are dealing with developmental disabilities, talk to a psychology professor; if job development perhaps someone in business, etc.). Since you need web site admin work find the IT department. Internships are for one semester, so you might get someone for 16 weeks. You are going to need someone in there part time to maintain a website if your agency is active and info changes on the site. Clerical work is something you are going to have to hire. Colleges will not be interested in an internship for that position. You might find other interns to work for you for free if you can justify the learning experience to the professor. We have several interns working with non-profts...credit hours given by the college, no money paid by the non-profit....they are learning! Prepare one sheet of into that you can leave with the college.....but it will have to be monitored by a professor.....good luck to you! (psych professor)
