How do I find a job as a legal secretary without looking online ?

I am currently pursuing my degree in Paralegal Sciences and would love to begin working as a secretary or a receptionist at a law firm to gain experience. I have applied online for dozens of jobs, and have not received a single callback. Are there any other job-hunting resources I can try?

the best thing would be to write letters to the HR managers in solicitors practices but you will need to be able to show that you can type well. I would follow this up with a phone call a week or so after sending the letter and explain your position. If you are actually studying at the minute then they will probably be more likely than if you were to say "in the future i am going to study...". Also, try recruitment agencies, but if you have no office experience or typing/admin qualifications then you will have to look at sorting that first.

If you own a degree - or any other qualification - then you'll already be ahead of the crowd when it comes to hunting for jobs. My buddy has a degree and he wasn't sure what direction to go with it, but he discovered some excellent guidance on the resource in the resource box below which helped him to settle that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is lots of guidance on the resource regarding other jobs.

Your city's newspaper will have a classified ad section that includes job ads from employers. Your school may also have a job placement program and could help you find work while you are in school. A lot of cities also have job placement offices that can help with a wide variety of jobs.

Besides the local newspaper's classified ads, check with your local county bar association. Many times, attorneys post job openings with them, the local colleges/universities, and the local law school(s)....

You probably haven't received any callbacks because your application is just one of so many - and so it gets filed under 'B.1.N...... Try the personal touch .... look up legal companies in your area.... arm yourself with copies of a good CV and copies of your qualifications..... Dress for the part ..... Then go in person and ask to speak with someone involved with recruitment ..... You might stand more luck as it's always harder for them to say no and turn you away when you're stand all ready, smiling, in front of them..... It may also do you a good turn as they can see you for themselves and will be impressed with your sincerity and determination...... even if it doesn't get you an immediate job .... it will get you into their minds and they will remember you in the not too distant future .... that's a distinct advantage over many if not all online applications..... Check the classifieds in your local newspaper. And don't e-mail your resume, fax and mail it in (or stop by in person). Also, call to verify that it has been received.
