This happened to me also and first off I want you to know that it WILL get better. Now I know how you feel, I was working for HP (hewlett packard) selling different kinds of virtualization technology so I was VERY nervous especially since I had NEVER herd of Virtualization. Here is a little summary of my story: At the beginning of this year, I lost my job working for a corporation I devoted myself to for five years. I was devastated, insulted, depressed and worst of all angry. Because of my situation, I had to immediately find another job, and went on an intense job hunt. This search for employment that lasted from January till June... SIX MONTHS! Then I was finally offered a job working for a marketing company. My job title was a Marketing Communications Specialist which is just a fancy name for a telemarketer. We did not call residential numbers, only businesses. We also did not cold call, we called corporations who had affiliation with the services we were calling them about. Now I am not nervous at all when calling different companies. Even if I stumble over my words or mess up in some sort of way. I just put it past me and move on with the call. The thing about your job and something you may want to remember that hopefully will calm your nerves is... These people are calling you! So you are there to help them and they need your assistance to get whatever it is they want. Please don't be nervous, however, it is only natural that you are but when you calm down you will do better on your phone calls. You probably wont get lost or stumble. When you start to get nervous just remember..."This person called ME and they called ME because they need MY help." Good luck and I hope my answer helps you!! You are going to do just fine! :-)

Hi.. it was your first day! be easy on yourself. I totally understand ur anxiety. I have been there. And it's not pleasant. But it absolutely gets better day by day by day. So just go with the flow. U are still learning the ropes of the job, you still don't have enough accumulated knowledge about the business .. but trust me, let some time pass...and u r gonna become a pro! Make notes if u want to. That always helped me. Any info u wanna remember - make notes. Ask questions of anythign u don't understand. Don't hesitate. And observe others. What do they say, what do they ask customers, how do they handle the task, what resource do they go to. It will seem like too much information but hang in there. When u r on the phone, just listen first to what the customer is asking. When u listen well, half the job is done. Then after that, if you don't know the answer, u can tell them to hang on a minute etc. Don't panic. It's okay. Customers are people like us, and they will understand if u r really polite. If they don't, it's fine. Even that is a learning experience. Don't worry and trsut the process. U will become better and better and better as each day passes... Take care, and smile and work with confidence. Even if u have to fake it. Become friendly with the customers. I have noticed that once u become a little friendly, things feel more relaxed.
