California Truck Drivers? What do you need to get your CDL Permit?

Ok, so I would like to know what you need to get your CDL Permit. I've already visited the DMV's website and gathered the necessary forms; the initial application, a physical exam sheet, and my driving record for the past 6 years, and a test booklet to study. However, some people have told me that you don't even need to take the medical exam, just to fill out the application and take the test and that's it. So what's the deal? Some advice please? And also what would be the best trucking school for the San Fernando Valley area, I'm thinking of applying at Schneider Trucking School all the way in Fontana. ok, please give some advice, no weblinks, I already did the research myself, and if I could just link to websites I wouldn't be asking questions here.

You will only need to submit your application and the appropriate fees at the DMV. At this point they will give you a test authorization for each endorsement you applied for. Take and pass your tests and you will receive a permit. You don't need the medical exam until you have your permit, but it wouldn't hurt to get it early. They are good for 2 years. You need to carry your card with you whenever driving a commercial vehicle. Schneider will work with you, but expect a year commitment to them as a long haul driver (cross country). You might be able to do better with a local company, especially in the area which you live.

A medical career is always worth considering, from nurses and surgeons right down to hospital cleaning staff.
