my coworker was fired, should they let her back into the office without supervision?
Asked by DAISY
She was pretty well liked, but was fired for tardiness and possibly not doing her job efficiently.
She was given full access to the office today and even brought her child with her. She used the copier and fax to finish getting reimbursed for parking.
It was kind of awkward. She was here for over an hour chatting and packing her stuff.
Wouldnt you think this is a bad move on the supervisor's part? This is not the 1st time this has happened.

It is very out of the ordinary to allow a dismissed employee back into the office unsupervised. This leads not only to safety issues, but data security issues.
I would guess that because she was well liked, the supervisor did not see her as a possible issue. Since it was not your responsibility, there is not much that you can do.
However, if the opportunity presents itself and you feel overly compelled, you may mention to the supervisor that you felt the former employer was treated very generously and that you'd never experienced that before. If you treat it as a positive instead of a negative, you may get some of the reasoning behind the decision.

pls let the supervisor be responsible for this. since you are not she -- it isn't your call.

She could be a nice person, but with so many people going beserk in the workplace after being fired, no, this wasn't a smart move. Hopefully, however, since she had her child with her, she wouldn't go to this extreme action.
Unfortunately, though, your hands are tied in the matter.

i don't see the big deal...many people return to their previous employer to visit their fellow coworkers...I don't see u are soo concerned with it???

A:
No. That's really stupid. When my employer fires someone it is standard policy that they immediately relinquish their card key (access to the building and equipment room) and are supervised by security the entire time they are in the building.
If the employee needs to return to finish packing or pick up a forgotten item it can only be done by appointment with security. While on the premises the ex-employee is escorted by security and is not permitted to chit chat with their former coworkers.

It is not your call to make. The supervisor knows about it, and you should not intefere, or you could find yourself without a job.
