What personal qualities does it take to be a nurse?
Asked by ...
I like taking care of people and helping people. But I don't have the greatest communication skills. I love pregnancy and babies so I was thinking of becoming a NP of womens health or pediatrics. What are the characteristics of a good nurse? And is nursing school extremely hard?

Caring and wanting to help people is a good place to start! Thats why a lot of people get in to nursing, and probably is one of the most important things in a good nurse. Also integrity and responsibility, beause patients are trusting us with their lives. Organization, communication, knowledge and time management are important, but those are skills that can be developed. Nursing school isn't easy, but it's doable. If you are taking classes now, make sure you learn your science and math, it will make things easier later. Psych as well. Good luck!

Good job on liking to take care of people...that may be your first step ! You may need to develop better communication skills...since i don't know you...maybee You may want to look into a degree on pregnancy/babies or just have kids of your own and look into another degree Nursing school is NOT extremely hard from what i have heard...it may be harder than some other degrees but since you enjoy helping others it'll be worth the time and effort... or you can laways go the pediatrition* way !!!!!!A GOOD NURSE'S DEFINITION CAN BE DIFFERENT TO OTHERS SOME PATIENTS might like you cause you have a good body, !!!!!!!smile...breast...etcetcetcetcetc...(no offense to you or anything just !!!!naming some true examples)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OTHERS MAY LIKE YOU FOR JUST YOU ...you are trustworthy, !!!!!know exactly whats wrong with the patient,,eteceteceyecetecet!!!!!!!!!! AND SOME may like you for your skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So here are some basic characteristics -Know how to put aside pressure -Kind -Know how to communicate with the patient -Medical knowledge... -You should be well familiar with your doctor -Patient Since i'm not a doctor or have a doctor's degree this may be just random facts that don't make sense...as a doctor's/nurse's patient this is what i think * spelt wrong i know too lazy
