What's the difference between a lawyer and an attorney?

Ok - we were watching Survivor and one guy's title comes up as "lawyer" while anothers says "attorney". What's the difference?

the titles are interchangeable....same as with "paralegal" and "legal assistant"

survivor probably puts up the occupation as listed on their application and they just put the different words on theirs.
but there is no difference

They mean the exact same thing. An Attorney is a Lawyer and a Lawyer is an Attorney. It is just the way the terms have changed.
