Career Questions and Answers

Mike and Jess
What career in the science field would use my accounting skills?
Asked by Mike and Jess
I finished my sophomore year working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. I have always had a love of numbers and organization, which is why I chose this major. I have also always loved science, and planned on becoming a science teacher after I retired. Now I'm wondering if there is a career in the science field that could utilize my love of ledgers and numbers. It would be the perfect career. Do you know of any? Thank you for your time.

Think about the role statisticians play, or someone with knowledge of statistical process control. The "magic" in this kind of career is in seeking out and finding subtle patters that show up in the numbers.

If you posess a degree - or any other qualification - then you'll already be in front of of the bunch when it comes to hunting for vocations. My mate has a degree and he wasn't sure what direction to go with it, but he found some great tips and tricks on the site in the resource box below which aided him to decide that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is plenty of guidance on the site regarding other vocations.

This isn't a direct answer, but if you are to be an accountant you will be sifting through, querying, and analyzing millions of lines of data. It seems now adays that a lot of scientific research is completed by the same way. Having those skills would be a good foundation to transisition into any field as long as you are familiar with the science's concepts. You could also easily transisition into management information systems, or other data intensive industries as well.
