How can I best position myself to change from a teaching position to an accounting position ?

I have an B.A. in Accounting but only worked in accounting for about two years. I have been teaching (with an M.A.T.) for over six years. I'm over 40 and would really like to try getting back to accounting. An accounting professionals out there with good advice?

I find it is nearly impossible to start a new career after forty years old because employers do not want older workers in entry level jobs but instead want to hire only young and exploitable workers.
