The same thing happened to me. The thing I learned was that there's a difference between a job, and a career. Many of my friends have been through the same thing, and you have to have a credential that qualifies you for a career because unfortunately, places don't want to train you. My friend graduated from college with degrees in Biology and Spanish and had a terrible time finding a job. He went back to school for medical technology, graduated and now has a lucrative job he loves. My first after-college job was a nightmare. I worked my way through school and wound up answering phones in a law office for these ambulance chasers who treated me like dirt. I got fed up right away... but I realized that a degree isn't the same thing as a career. My degree was in Spanish, which really didn't prepare me for a profession. My advice is to do research, talk to people and go to graduate or professional school. I'm going back to school to get certified to teach EFL (English as a Foreign Language). I'm not sure if I'll do it for the rest of my life but at least I'll be happy in that field.

YEP, I am 29 years old with an associates deegre and i am currently working for $8 an hour. with no benefits. the economy is at it's worst in my lifetime. If i were you i would keep plugging away at it. every place you apply at wether it is in person or online, and if they don't call you within a week, call them, ask to speak to the hiring mgr. be very rpofessional, say you are checking on the status of your application. wether you have a masters degree or a bachelors doesn't really mean much when it comes to getting a job.. They want EXPERIENCE. also a lot of it is who you know, not what you know. trust me, your not alone.

I see a LOT of people who have this same exact problem. Without being mean, it DOES have a lot to do with your degree. If you majored in some fluffy degree like : Criminal Justice,English, History, Communications, Art, Theatre, Marketing,Child Development, Nutrition, Health...etc... Yeah..then you're going to have a hard time finding something.I would actually LOVE to major in any one of those degrees above because they interest me and are fun. However, they just aren't as hard. If you don't have a challenging degree and just got a degree to get one..you can expect that there are many people out there that are doing the same thing, so the competition will be just as intense. Now on the other hand...how many people do you know that have an engineering major..or some sort of medical degree that are having an awful time finding a job. What about biochemistry majors? Yup, there's a reason why those people aren't suffering now. They already did their 4-6 years of suffering..or then some. It pays off later. Let us know what kind of degree you have so that we may all elaborate more on the question.
