What can I do to prepare for the post office exam? Are there any post office preps that aren't scams? Do you have to "know" someone to get in? Let me know. Thanks in advance.

You need to look up your local post office on the net.. Find the next test date and call them and tell them you are looking to take the test.. they will give you all the help you need.
