What schooling is required to become a hospital ward clerk?
Asked by Remi
I'm currently a nursing student, but I've heard that you only need a community college course to become a ward clerk. Is this true? It seems to me like it would be a great way to get hospital experience (I only have experience shadowing nurses) and learn in a real-world environment while I'm in school. Can anyone tell me what course is required/certification needed? Any information would be excellent, thank you!

You need to see what your school offers because any advice here will not matter if your school does not offer those courses or if they do not apply to your license.

I think it is like a 1 or 2 semester course to become a ward clerk. I looked into it not that long ago as well to get hospital experience to get into grad school to become a physicians assistant. If you go to your local community colleges websites and look at their programs/certificates that they offer it should tell you the exact coursework needed. Hope that helps!

A:
None; OJT matters more, but any classes in typing, medical transcription, or medical terminology would be helpful. Also, medical assistant.
