Many business owners do not want to be 'bothered' with the day to day record keeping involved with paying bills, making collections, doing payroll, keeping up with inventory, etc. Therefore, they hire those who are skilled at doing just that and know how to use the software to the fullest extent.

Everything isn't done on computer and businesses still need someone to take responsibility. It's also good to have a bookkeeper to provide on objective perspective.

Computers are automated but they aren't magic. Someone still needs to enter the AP and AR, have checks issued (yes, via computer), have said checks signed, spit out reports, reconcile bank statements, prepare financials, blah, blah, and more blah. Computers surely expedite the above, but don't actually "do" these things.
