I agree with # 1 the other thing is that you can contact the ombudsman that is assigned to that nursing home. In most states it is required that the name and contact info for the ombudsmen be provide and in many places posted. The ombudsman works for the state and it is their job to advocate for the patients in a nursing home/hospital. Often times it is enough to just have this person contact the nursing home on your behalf. Good Luck

The HIPAA privacy laws allow physicians to withhold a person's records IF they can prove reasonable belief that seeing those records could cause harm. Usually, this only applies in mental health diagnoses, though. You have a right to ask to speak with the nursing home's Privacy Officer and have the denial explained. If you are not satisfied, the Privacy Officer is required to provide you with the name and contact information for filing a formal complaint with the Secretary of Human Services.

Those records are yours. You have every right. Don't take no for an answer. There are many good reasons to check you records in fact I have a copy of mine here at home that I provide to the appropriate doctors. The Psychology part person 1 stated about harm to yourself is true, other than that you can demand copies. One thing, if another doctor request them upon your approval the have to send them. If you asked for the for you personal records they may charge you like 25 or 35 cents a page which can get pricey depending on the Length of you records. You may get lucky and not charged. Just remember those files are yours.
