Is it easy for non-singaporeans (those on EP) to find alternate jobs?

I am on an EP and would like to search for other jobs (because my current position has become a bit precarious on account of the recession).I'm an embedded software engineer, and would be looking for similar jobs, but in the worst case scenario - if i'm laid off soon - i'd need some kind of a job (perhaps a call center since my english is good) to continue staying in singapore, while i search for software jobs. Is this feasible? do they hire non-singaporeans for say call center jobs?
