Asked by gerbil_girl63

Computer graphic design is a basic course in making pretty pictures. There are jobs in that and it is fine if you are artistic. Computer Science is far more big picture and it qualifies you for a lot more. Most Comp Sci people pick up the computer graphic design part as just a small part of their far greater skillset. And the Comp Sci people have more job opportunities and are likely to make more money. Myself, I design electronic circuitry for professional sound systems. And when I needed to design graphics for front panels and the like. I just take my far greater computer knowledge, bring up Corel Draw and just do it. And I got no training at all because compared to the Computer Science I know, graphic design is child's play. Graphic design is not worth enough to us to even pay someone else to do it. So Comp Sci - Big job and bigger money Computer Graphics Design - Mush lower down the totem pole.

I think you are looking at this backwards. If you are an artistic person with a strong visual talent you will do graphic design. If you are a logical person with an interest in how things work, you will do computer science. These are two very different talents. Both skill sets are involved in making a computer game; one will create the visuals and the other the mechanics of the game.
