Career Questions and Answers
will my social work qualifiations in England be easily transferrable to a career in Scotland?
Asked by theboyneil
i have a place at a University in England to do a masters course in social work, but me and my boyfriend are planning on eventually moving to Scotland to live and work. I have been told that there are differences in the laws that make the job slightly different in the two countries. Does anyone know how easy it is to get a social work job in Scotland, with english qualifications?
thanks for any advice x

Although there are major differences in laws, it isnt too hard to transfer your skills. If you do your course in England and then come to Scotland all you have to do is sit an extra "top-up" course here which doesnt take too long - it depends which type of social work though, some are the same - if it involves law itself then yes you may have to do a longer "top-up" course. Vice versa for Scottish Qualification used in England.
It didnt used to be like that but the UK Government and the Scottish government kinda changed things.
