Do patient care technicians make good money if they work in a hospital?
Asked by Angel
Also for PCT's who work in the hospital do they have to clean up alot of poop like you do in the nursing homes? How is the work as a PCT in a hospital setting? If you do not know the answer then i would rather you not even bothering responding to my question. I would only like accurate answers.

PCT is on the lower end of the totem pole. Yes, you will have to care for sick and injured patients, and that's what the unskilled, uncertified, no experience people do. Hospitals generally pay better than smaller facilities, like rehabs and nursing homes.

Techs are basically nursing assistants. Most of us are junior and senior nursing students who are using the position to gain experience. I make about $12/hr and work for a pediatric hospital. I do vital signs, change diapers, bathe, feed, do all intakes and outputs, take out IVs, transport patients, and basically help the nurse with whatever she needs. If I have an infant with no parents with them, I will hold them and rock them too. The job is very limiting with no growth unless you are looking to become an RN or some other medical professional. And honestly, most hospitals prefer to hire PCTs that have goals of becoming an RN.
