What are some tips for being a good waitress?

I'm going to be starting a new job as a waitress at a steakhouse in a few days. I have a little waitressing experience from working in a pizza shop and customer service experience but obviously this will be pretty different. So what are some things to remember that will help make me a good waitress?

1. Be courteous
2. Be prompt
3. Be well groomed
4. Be respectful
5. Don't chew gum
6. Have a good attitude
7. The customer is always right...even when they aren't

smile! be patient with little kids because they take a long time to order and they're loud. dont get an attitude with the customers even when they're rude, obnoxious, and ignorant because they will not tip you. if you're serving all boys/men flirt because you might get better tips. im not saying bend over and be a ***. like wink your eye

Be friendly, smile, check to see if everything is ok, check to see if they want anything else. You will do fine.

Yes, a smile is nice. Also, don't forget to check back for drink refills, etc. without overdoing it

most answers are half right...
learn the menu
get the order right the first time...
alway bring drinks back right away/and give re-fills before they are empty (i get real mad when i have to hunt someone down for this)
always just before the end,ask will they be anything else? pies drinks? i not thank them..and get the check..

Don't let the tables control you. Yes you are there to get them things they want but never let them be in control. Once the tables are in control you will get stuck in the weeds all night.
