Asked by katebug_08
Ok so i am starting stna school very soon <state tested nurses aide> but i would rather shoot higher and go for Lpn <licenced practical nurse> do you have to be a stna before being an lpn. or can you just take classes for it.

No. You don't need to be a CNA to become a LPN. But I will be honest it will really help you with your LPN school if you have it~because you will already know some basics. It will also expose you to Nursing if yo are still unsure about working in the field. If you are going to shoot higher than a CNA why don't you go straight for your RN? Also many people become CNA's first because then they can work part-time and earn money while they are in Nursing school. Depending on your circumstances~just out of high school/live with parents/financial~my suggestion is to go straight for your LPN/RN and skip CNA.

If you go through a bachelor's degree program at a major university, you can skip the STNA and get certified to be a LPN.
