i want to get a cdl for a garbage truck drivers job in illinois?

the company is waste management and their taking apps for future hirings so i want to get in and get my cdl. what kind of cdl do i need just for regular pickups not any haz waste kind of pickups just suburban housing. i already picked up the book from the secretary of state but what are the main chapters i have to study. i know the air brakes and safety are important but what other chapters are necessary. keep in mind this is for chicago illinois so if anyone works for the company or has a cdl and works in this industry it would help. thanks alot

At minimal you will need a CDL B with an air brake endorsement. REALLY study the general knowlege section, air brake section, and pre-trip inspection sections. Wouldn't hurt to look over the haz mat section so you know what you should not be transporting without endorsements / placards. A good idea would be to apply now for your permit, pay your fees, and get the ball started. If the company sees that you already passed your permit written tests, you appear more employable for the position you are seeking. They need to give you a road test anyway before you drive for them, so they may be willing to lend you a truck to test in at the DMV. WM Inc. is a very safety conscious company (in my experience) so make sure your driving record is clean, and you are drug / alcohol free, otherwise it will all be in vain.
