What is the average pay for retail/food service employees?
Asked by xfilesfan
I'm just curious what the average hourly pay is for retail and food service employees. I work at Panera and make $7.50 per hour. Anyone out there who works a similar job who wouldn't mind telling how much they make?

Best Answer:
It's usually pretty close to the minimum wage in your area. maybe 2 or 3 dollars higher after a year or two.

It really depends on where you live. I live in Canada. I worked last summer for $9.50/hr.

A:
That depends on the job title and the demand in your area. On a recent trip to Hawaii, we saw ads for workers at fast-food places offering well above minimum wage, because there just aren't enough workers available there. Generally, however, retail and food service entry-level jobs pay minimum wage. However, as you move up the corporate ladder, you can do much better than that. For example, McDonalds CEO James A. Skinner made more than $9 million last year -- $4.5 million in salary and $5 million from exercising stock options he had been granted.

It all depends on the area you live in. Also what minimum wage is, as well as your age and experience.
