How do I get a waitress job without actual experience?
Asked by Lily
I just lost my job and I am looking for jobs as a waitress. I think it will be a great opportunity for me and even though its hard work I want to work as a server. I have almost two years of customer service experience and I am good with people so is there still a chance someone would like to hire me as a waitress even though I don't have food service experience? If so what tips would you give me to get into this type of business.

With your work experience qualifications you have a very good chance of becoming a server. Also, if they know that you are fully aware of the hard work that lies ahead in this line of work then you have a high advantage over other applicants. Remember to tell the manager every single thing that makes you qualified for the person (energetic, work experience, friendly, customer-oriented, likes to work with people, etc.) and make sure to SMILE and dress PROFESSIONALLY (no jeans, t-shirts or sneakers) when you apply and get an interview.
Afterward before they hire you, you may have to visit your local health department and get your Food Handler's Card in order to be able to serve food. It can cost up to $7.00 for the test to get the card (basically studying a pamphlet of food info and taking a multiple-choice test) and then you'll be good to go.
Good luck! I hope you snag a waitressing job!
