Asked by j man
Well I've been a carpenter for 6 years and sick of the laboring, not paid on time and unreliable work, I want to switch careers as soon as possible. I have a G.E.D. I moved around alot when i was younger so i was unable to finish school. I love to travel the country and the world, i have done a few months in sales, I am obviously interested in money, but i hate the idea of going to school for such a long period. and i live in florida and massachusetts. So i posted this on yahoo for anyone else's input or suggestions for some one like me. medical feild

Truck Driving salaries are wayyyyyyy down. I had the task of hiring for those positions this past year and every driver is looking for a new job. At the same time, every manufacturer is trying to figure out how to spend less on transportation of goods. I would not pursue trucking. Very people are truly good at sales. If you have a penchant for it, I say get into sales. Florida has one of the worst job markets for sales right now because anyone who had any product related to the housing industry jumped ship and is selling something else. However, I suggest that you take any sales job you can get. Start in telemarketing if you have to! You asked about medical products. To sell medical products, you generally have to have good grades backing you up from a college degree, as you have to explain the medical benefits of the drugs or devices you would sell. I know that insurance sales gets a bad rap, but guess what? If you sell a legitimate product, everyone can benefit from your efforts. Each state has a different licensing process, but if you can get into a company that will train you for the test and you study, you'll do just fine. See if you can get a job with one of the reputable insurance companies. Insurance salesmen can make good money. Another area I like to suggest is banking. all you need to get an entry level job in banking is a high school degree and people can move into management fairly quickly. Plus, because banking has such regula hours you can take college courses at night, if you like. A basic liberal arts degree is the most versatile degree and the easiest to get good grades in if you know how to communicate well. Good luck! I hope I have given you some good ideas!

Most of the jobs worth having require a little more than high school equivalency. Talk to a counselor at your local community college. You can take courses at night and work during the day. Night students in college are usually motivated people, and the classes are interesting.

If you are good at sales, many sales jobs don't have educational requirements so you might be able to find something in that area - you might want to wait though until the economy picks up some. Almost any job in the medical field will have educational requirements you'll have to meet. Good luck.
