Tips on getting promoted to assistant manager?
Asked by Fordguy87
I am a bus driver for a moderate-sized company in Pennsylvania and have recently found out there will be an upcoming opening for assistant manager in the division I currently drive for. I know there are 2 other drivers who have applied for the position, both of who have a few more years of seniority than I do. I spoke with the person who currently has the position, and she feels I would be very qualified but that I probably won't be promoted to it, due to the other 2 applicants seniority. Any tips on helping me land this position would be much appreciated!

Apply and make sure yu provide any experience you have in leadership roles or provide them with reasons you would make a good manager. How you effectively deal with people, how you are able to multitask and get projects (of any kind) done on time and within budget. Have some ideas about the division that are good and have some ideas where the division can improve and some high level answers. If seniority is a factor you may impress them enough so when a position opens again or maybe one in another division they may think of you and approach you to see if you are interested. Good Luck

Do not be put off, show initiative and apply, what do you have to lose? If you are turned down this time, they might well think that you are really interested in being an assistant manager and this will be to your advantage. You do not know what will happen in the future, the person you consider to be the best candidate may not apply, or may leave, or may not want the job. Go for it.
