My cousin has been out of nursing school for less than 5 years and just found a job as a school nurse. She is an RN. She only has her associate's degree + her nursing diploma, no other certifications. She is back in school taking a class which will certify her as a school nurse, and she says that once she gets the certification, her pay will increase substantially. She makes about $24/hour but she absolutely loves it. Before, she was working in a hospital making $40/hour but the job was so highstrung, highpaced, and stressful, that she prefers to make less and have a rewarding job as a school nurse, PLUS her kids are in school and have the same schedule as her. So when they are off, she is off. When they are at school, she is working. During summer break, she doesn't have to pay someone to watch her kids because she is also off. So its very good for someone who has kids.
FYI public schools pay WAY more than private or catholic schools.

First you must graduate nursing school, obtain license in state(s), the work and get some experience, preferably in child health and/or public health.
It is "awesome" at times, but a pain in a lower posterior area at times.
Try to find someone who does or is doing that and have honest discussion.
