Cosmetology can really have its ups and down. It is a great job if you are a people person and have a genuine love for the beauty industry. Salary depends on whether you are an hourly employee or commissioned, I know of places that are either/or and some places that offer both. The bad thing with our current state of economy is that most people don't have the funds to "pamper" themselves. The personal care and grooming industries were one of the first to suffer from this recession. I knew hairstyles, makeup artists, estheticians, massage therapists and others in the beauty industry that were making very good money, but now their paychecks are not nearly as much as they were before. I myself am a licensed Esthetician but have decided not to pursue a career in esthetics until things start looking a little brighter.
