Career Questions and Answers

I am 16 years old and thinking about applying at Jewel Osco this summer. Can I become a cashier?
Asked by Laura
I live in Chicago, Illinois (if that helps) and want to get a summer job. I think Jewel would be a great place to start, because they hire at 16 (I asked them). I would like to be a cashier. I definitely DO NOT want to be a bagger. Is there any way that I can become a cashier right off the bat or do I have to bag first?

My teen daughter has worked at a grocery store since she was 16. They will not let them cashier until they are 18. All of the 16 and 17 year old's are baggers and cart chasers.

dont listen to this guy above me, its a total ripoff but yeah I live in Chitown too and Jewel is a great place to start. You would need to fill out an application soon, like now, over the internet, or you can go apply in the store. You can be a cashier first and they train you as well. Paid training, check every Friday and great benefits Also if you wanted to work now part time, you could. I suggest filling out the app now so by another month or two they will call you back and you will take a drop(drug test) and start your training. Good luck
