Transitioning from 2nd shift to 1st shift job at work.?
Asked by nick
I currently work in a distribution center from 3pm-11:30 pm, and was recently asked to go to 1st shift for a special project for about a year. I sleep from 4am-12:30 or 1:00pm. I've been working 2nd shift for 3 1/2 years. I am single and have a dog. Should this change be difficult? Any suggestions for a smoother transition?

Take it from somebody who has been rotating shifts for 32 years (my shift changes every week, and they rotate all three shifts), the first week or two will seem odd, but you should adjust quickly after that. The key is to keep your same routine as much as possible. Just adjust your schedule back eight hours. Sleep the same amount of hours and get up (and go to bed) the same times you do now, just eight hours earlier (eg, go to bed at 8pm and get up at 4:30 or 5am). Eat at the same intervals you do now. Your dog will adjust immediately.
